I wish I was there instead of in the frozen mess in the Midwest…
In order to honor the memory of bicycle safety advocate Bob Garing, the San Luis Obispo Bicycle Club and the County Bike Coalition have designated Saturday as “Bicycle Safety Day.”
This article in the San Luis Obispo Tribune states:
“Garing, who died in May 2005, was an outspoken advocate who believed bicyclists are safest when they blend with motor vehicles and obey the vehicle code.”
There are several great quotes in the article, including:
“Cyclists fare best when they act and are treated as drivers of vehicles.” “The best bike facility is our road systems with some improvements like wider roads, turning lanes and bike sensitive signals.”
Sounds like a wonderful way to honor an amazing man.
