Snapple recently announced the release of their new line of Antioxidant Water. As part of their launch I was contacted by them to try out and review some of their new water. Apparently we were chosen because this site promotes fitness. If only they actually knew me and how much of a slacker I really am. Although I do appreciate this quote from the bottle:
Some of you are great athletes. Everyone else, well, you try really hard. That’s OK. We believe in little things called personal goals.
This “enhanced” water is available in four different versions:
- The Power to PROTECT:, Vitamins A and E, electrolytes and a complete dose of Vitamin C help protect the body against free radicals. Available in Tropical Mango and Orange Starfruit flavors.
- The Power to DEFY: Vitamins A and E, Grape Seed Extract, plus electrolytes assist in refreshing the body and mind. Available in Raspberry Acerola and Grape Pomegranate flavors.
- The Power to AWAKEN: Vitamins A, E and B, Caffeine, Guarana, Ginseng and Ribose, plus electrolytes will awaken your senses. Available in Strawberry Acai and Dragonfruit flavors.
- The Power to RESTORE: Vitamins A and E, plus a double dose of electrolytes assist in restoring the body after any endurance and strength activity. Available in Agave Melon flavor.
I took delivery of four bottles of Snapple water. Flavors included Grape Pomegranate, Raspberry Acerola, Orange Starfruit and Agave Melon.
The Taste
This is the angle that Snapple’s brand shines through the most. The different flavors of water are very tasty and unique. The Agave Melon was my favorite and the Orange Starfruit reminded me of those Pop-ice popsicles I ate when I was a kid.
If you like the taste of fruit juice and looking for some unique flavors then you’ll probably enjoy the Snapple Antioxidant water.
The Nutrition
While Snapple is trying to provide you with vitamins and electrolytes that you may need, I’m not extremely thrilled with how much sugar is in each bottle. There is 13 grams of sugar per serving size (1 cup) of Snapple Antioxidant Water. That’s just a tad under what you’ll find in a bottle of Gatorade or Powerade sports drink at 15 grams of sugar per serving (1 cup).
The general manager of Snapple, Brian Mazur, says “The launch of Antioxidant Water and LYTeWater provides consumers with nutrient-packed, great tasting alternatives to traditional bottled water.” and that’s where I disagree.
I’d have a hard time replacing bottled water with the Snapple version and call it healthier. Each bottle is packed with 32 grams of sugar and 140 calories.
If you’re into drinking other sports drinks then you may enjoy the new flavors offered by Snapple, but I don’t recommend using it to replace your normal intake of water.
