Every year about this time I make my list, I set my resolve, and try to stick to my resolutions. The resolutions I make are probably no different than yours, after all, we know what’s good for us. Inevitably though, I seem to fall short of most resolutions that are new or challenging for me. I really do have the best intentions, but you know what they say about that. Well I say, if the road to hell is paved with good intentions, then the same road will lead you out of hell too, it’s your direction that’s important.
In the past I’ve been successful when I’ve shared my goals or resolutions. It helps motivate me. If no one knows my goals, no one knows if I succeed or fail. Safe plan, but not very motivating. Cycling is all about motive force, and I need it bad. I wrote this little acrostic while I was thinking about how to get motivated and make my intentions become reality.
So… all that now said, and following RL’s example, I guess I have to spill my guts too. Here are two ‘biggies’ on my resolution list for 2006
- Lose 50 pounds
- Ride at least 3500 miles
I’ve lost 100 pounds in the last 15 months. In the last 3 months, I’ve put 15 back on. I’m putting the brakes on that right now. Like RL, I’ll post my updates. Maybe we should make a tracking page or something. Anyone interested in joining us? It takes guts – something I want less of.
