On the heels of Josh King’s gear recommendations for Urban Bad Weather Commuting, I found more recommendations for winter cycling equipment and a review of the best bicycle tires for wet or snowy conditions–both on Yahoo! Sports, of all places. (I confess, Yahoo!, I underestimated you.)

In Nashville, regional municipal leaders met recently to discuss urban sprawl. “People in the Nashville area spend a lot more time in their cars than other areas.” That understatement from the head of Nashville’s Metropolitan Planning Organization, Michael Skipper. Ethel MacDonald, a 72-year-old bike commuter filled up her car the other day for the first time since January 23, 2010. In the interim she has traveled almost 3000 miles by bike; a combination of commuting 1,200 miles within Missoula, and touring from Paris to Amsterdam, and riding along America’s West Coast.
“I love our city,” MacDonald said. “I really believe every person on a bike and every person walking or riding a bus makes our city a friendlier place to live.
“Every person not confined inside metal makes for a better community.”
