These security cables pair really nicely with the Ortlieb panniers. They slide into the pannier rail and tuck out of the way when you're not using them, so they don't dangle annoyingly. Then they slide out to lock your panniers. These are obviously not a high-security item: they're thin cables that you could cut easily with a pair of wire cutters (and probably a Leatherman), and in any case, it would be easy enough to open the panniers and rummage through. But they'll prevent a quick grab-and-go theft, which would be super-easy with Ortlieb's quick-release attachment mechanism. These will allow me to happily enjoy my meal while sitting in a cafe window with my bike in view. NOTE: the short cables work fine for larger panniers--they just won't reach as far. A pair of shorts will easily lock together to the back rack.
