The Persuader is Tumbleweed’s award winning mountain touring handlebar design based on many years and thousands of miles of loaded off-road touring experience, a bar focused on comfort, utility and control.

We have two variants of the Persuader, the original version in heat treated and triple butted chromoly steel with a clear powder coated raw finish or the new heat treated 7000 series aluminum alloy in a shot peened black finish. Both versions feature a 50mm* rise and a super comfy 30 degree back sweep (technically 31 degrees for the alloy bar).

*Note that the 50mm in rise for these bars is measured from grip center to stem clamp center, due to continued upsweep (not center of first bend to stem clamp center).

Overview

The Persuader is Tumbleweed’s award winning mountain touring handlebar design based on many years and thousands of miles of loaded off-road touring experience, a bar focused on comfort, utility and control. We have two variants of the Persuader, the original version in heat treated and triple butted chromoly steel with a clear powder coated raw finish or the new heat treated 7000 series aluminum alloy in a shot peened black finish. Both versions feature a 50mm rise and a super comfy 30 degree back sweep (technically 31 degrees for the alloy bar).

The Persuader was designed with a few ideas in mind – First, we wanted a bar that has a wide straight section next to the stem for mounting bags, so there is no forward sweep. Next, we wanted to maximize real estate in the grip area so that you could use a variety of grip/brake lever/shifter options and leave plenty of room to trim to your desired width. The narrowest we’ve trimmed them to is 760mm, but there was still plenty of room left to go narrower. To get both a wide front section and a long grip section, we paid extra to have custom tooling made to get the bend radius in the bar as tight and compact as possible. ISO Mountain tested.

The new Alloy Persuader has taken the original bar design and refined it, by giving the bar a full width 31.8mm clamping area, there is plenty of room to mount a variety of accessories. The original Persuader bar is as nice of a steel bar as we were able to produce, and we were still able to shave off half a pound with the new alloy version, as well as offer it in a new wider 840mm size for maximum control over heavy loaded bikes on rough trails.

I’m persuaded!

Just bought the Persuader handlebar by Tumbleweed bikes from Campfire Cycling. This is the 8th or so purchase from Campfire and they are always great in terms of customer service and have products that you just can’t find elsewhere. I’ve even convinced my LBS to buy parts from them. Easy to order, timely to deliver and great service!

Tumbleweed Bikes The Persuader Bar - 800mm alloy

I wanted to try out these bars on my bikepacking bike to replace the original flat/nearly straight rcae bars. Glad Campfire Cycling had some still in stock. I've only ridden on these twice so far, but I'm enjoying the width, sweep and rise - the bars get me a bit more upright and I can feel a little bit of flex wich will help with long bikepacking rides. There's ample room for bags and lights/electornics, aerobars, etc. Still testing them out, and will put to the big test on the TD this year.

50mm of rise

The Persuader bar has 50mm of rise using the industry standard measurement of center of clamp area to center of bar at the grip. The rise is calculated with a 4 degree upsweep (which can about be tweaked a bit to suit personal preference). The initial 36mm rise in the first bend helps achieve this overall 50mm rise over the full width of the bar. I just double checked this measurement on one of my bikes with the 800mm alloy Persuader bar installed and the rise does indeed hit 50mm spot on. I hope this helps future readers who might not fully understand how bar dimensions are measured.

Not 50mm of rise

With over 55 years of avid cycling experience, I have my cockpit setup dialed down to within millimeters. Tumbleweed claims these bars have 50 mm of rise, when in fact they only have about 32 mm of rise when following standard center to center measurement protocol. It's a big disappointment that a company like Tumbleweed would misrepresents their products. That said, they seem like quality bars. Now I'm waiting for a fork with a long enough steerer to be able to use them.
