The Illinois state legislature passed a “Complete Streets” bill this year which would require full consideration for pedestrian and cyclist access in the design for all new public roads in the state of Illinois. Governor Rod Blagojevich vetoed this bill last month, but the Illinois Senate voted 53-0 yesterday to override the veto. The Illinois House is expected to vote on an override Real Soon Now, according to the League of Illinois Bicyclists and several Illinois bike blogs. The LIB is asking Illinois voters to contact their district representative right now, thank them for voting for SB314 and ask them to vote to override the governor’s amendatory veto on the Complete Streets bill.
