For most of us, riding a bike is an option. For others, it’s the only option. In the early 1990’s, Cuba underwent some major political and economic changes. Oil, food, and just about everything else was scarce, so bicycles became the primary option for transportation for many. These days, riding is no longer the only option for many Cubans but many still use bicycles for transportation and livelihood, though parts and mechanics are scarce. This beautiful video by Kauri Multimedia visualizes the bike culture in Cuba and the many techniques Cubans have to maintain and use their bicycles.
