Are You Ready for the Adventure?

We’re really excited to bring a new-to-us route to our bikepacking series as we cruise towards the end of summer! We’ll be heading over to the White Mountains to do a shortened version of Forset Radarian’s Lobo Lupes Loop. It’s 129 miles and 8503 feet of climbing (and descending) into pure joy.

The plan is to park in either Show Low or just down the forest service road on the 13th at 8:30am. We will drop a pin of an exact meeting point in the next few weeks. We’ll ride about 45 miles from our starting point and camp out along the route, hopefully near a water source. The second day has a resupply in Greer and we will ride another 45 miles to camp for night 2. Day 3 is a 39ish mile cruise downhill back to where we started. Please make absolutely sure you have the capacity to carry enough water to ride 40-60 miles – that means 3 litre minimum if you plan on filtering and 5+ litres if you don’t plan on filtering – we have Ortlieb Water Bags in a few sizes, tons of stem bag options, as well as Sawyer Filters available for purchase in the shop!

This ride is advanced bikepacking with challenging terrain and lots of climbing. We recommend a mountain bike set up tubeless with 2.4-2.6″ tires or a minimum of 2.2″ tires. You can read about what to expect here: https://bikepackingroots.org/project/el-lobo-lupus/

Ride Pace is ride at your own comfortable pace! This is not a race. We generally ride at a party pace, which means stopping when you need to and lots of meetups so we can re-group and enjoy the scenery together. Campfire Cycling will always have a mechanic at the back of the ride so no one is “stuck” alone at the back or incase a mechanical issue come up.

Anticipate Temperatures to range from: 40 degrees (or slightly below) at night to low 70’s during the day.

We will be recreating on the traditional lands of the Western Apache, White Mountain Apache and Pueblos people. Please respect the land and the people and leave no trace as we travel through.

We will be contacting everyone who signs up for the ride to make sure they are prepared for the challenge. Please sign up if you plan on joining us.
